A New Era Begins

The Lady Warriors are in the midst of making some real history in the OCS rich basketball tradition. They are having tremendous success winning tournaments and regular season games.

Over the last three years, the Lady Warriors have won the Northland Baptist Bible College Tournament in Dunbar, Wisconsin three times, the KCAA State Tourney three times, the MAACS Tourney twice and the NACA Division II Tourney twice.

During the past two seasons, the Lady Warriors have been led by Coach Gary Newsome, president of Warrior Hoops.

Coach Newsome coached the Lady Warriors to their 2nd consecutive national title this year in Dayton, TN.

“The Lord is blessing our programs with tremendous people in leadership positions.  The Lord is preparing us for a huge growth spurt that we can all sense is coming,” says Coach Smith.

Leah and Elise Cotton have been part of the Lady Warriors for many years. Three years ago, they were joined by Amy Green who has just signed to play for the Mid-America Pioneers, last year joined by Jasamyne Saunders and this year joined by guard Ashley Wooten. This nucleus have proven to be the best Ladies basketball team in school history. As previously mentioned they have won the KCAA state basketball tournament three years running. These championships are the first in the school's history. They went on to win the Division II NACA national championships in Dayton, TN two years running. Coach Newsome plans to return next year to challenge for the Division I title.

Amy Green is the first Lady Warrior in school history to sign to play basketball at the collegiate level. These are the kind of accomplishments that has made our program a program to be recognized. For years the girl's basketball program has been overshadowed by the accomplishments of the boy's program. That is no longer the case.
